Quartzsite, Arizona - During Monday's Town Council meeting, Town Manager Alex Taft reported no agency had decided to investigate Police Chief Jeff Gilbert and Sgt. Fabiola Garcia.
Monday afternoon, the town issued the following press release stating DPS had decided to investigate.
"Today the
Town of Quartzsite has given the evidence to DPS in the matter of the
investigation into Sgt. Garcia and Police Chief Jeff Gilbert. DPS will be
investigating this matter rather than another law enforcement agency as
suggested in the August 27, 2012 Council Meeting."
Tuesday afternoon, before being placed on administrative leave, Taft release the following press release stating DPS is still considering the issue.
"The Town of Quartzsite has turned over evidence
regarding the investigation into Chief Gilbert and Sgt. Garcia to DPS. DPS is
still considering the matter for review."
Chief Gilbert and Sgt. Garcia were placed on administrative leave Thursday, August 23rd pending results of an investigation.
